Dreams really do come true. I'm always talking about setting lofty goals and working hard to achieve them. To see Drew Brees reach the pinnacle of what every pro football player plays for, a Super Bowl Championship, is watching a dream come true. To cap it off with MVP honors, made it that much more satisfying.
I've worked with Drew for the past seven years and I can't tell you how proud and happy I am for Drew and his wife Brittany, the New Orleans Saints and the city of New Orleans. They stand together, strong and resilient - a symbol of what is possible to achieve through rebuilding - rebuilding a shoulder, a team and a city.

Drew Brees and son Baylen celebrating a special moment after
Super Bowl victory
On a personal note, I have to say, Wow! What a week! Over the last 10 years, as I've pursued my life mission and purpose as a trainer and fitness professional, I've dreamed of helping my athletes make it to the big game and realize their potential to be champions. Some of my own dreams were realized on Sunday when Drew stood before a viewing audience of 106 million and shared in the victory celebration. I loved every minute of sweet anticipation preparing for Sunday's game, and I loved every minute of crazy New Orleans' style celebrating that followed. Now, I just gotta get some sleep.
I wrote my feature article, Destiny or Design, on the plane traveling home from Miami. This is my tribute to Drew. It was my goal to share with you a little about the qualities Drew possesses that have helped him to achieve such greatness. Check out February's feature article below and all the important information in this month's Super Bowl edition of the TD Times.

Congratulations DREW BREES!!
SUPER BOWL XLIV CHAMPION and MVP
New Orleans Saints Quarterback and
FQ10 Client SUPER BOWL WINNER
Drew Brees made history on Sunday as he led the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl Title. Drew finished the night going 32-39 for 288 yards with 2 touchdowns and being named Super Bowl MVP. The Super Bowl was a great finish for the 2009-2010 NFL season. Drew had a great season, being named to the Pro Bowl and FedEx Player of the Year. Drew finished the season passing for over 4,000 yards, throwing 34 touchdowns, and completed over over 70% of his passes, an NFL record.
Congrats Drew...
You are an example of how hard work, determination, vision, and a relentless positive attitude all pay off!

Todd's Highlight Video of Super Bowl XLIV
Todd Durkin, MA, C.S.C.S., Owner, Fitness Quest 10 and Head of Under Armour Performance Training Council went to Super Bowl XLIV in Miami to cheer on and support Fitness Quest 10 Client, Drew Brees. Todd's journey included an Under Armour Combine for Miami High Schools, media row where Todd was featured on over 15 different TV & radio stations, the NFL Experience sponsored by Under Armour, and of course the Big Game. It all ended in great fashion as Drew Brees and the Saints were victorious in Super Bowl XLIV. Drew finished the game going 32-38 with 2 touchdown passes and the title of Super Bowl MVP.

Not long ago, Drew & I did a teleseminar together that were on his "Secrets to Success." Because of the timing with the Super Bowl and how powerful a call this was, I have dug up the catacombs of my teleseminar library and found the call that we did. You can listen to the call by simply clicking on the link below:
One thing about the call that I still remember is that Drew talked about F.A.I.T.H. By that, he meant:
F = Fortitude
A = Attitude
I = Integrity
T = Trust
H = Humility
Check out that call by simply clicking on the link above!!!

"Destiny or Design?"
Winning a Super Bowl or the Game of Life....
What it takes to be a Champion
By Todd Durkin, MA, CSCS, NCTMB,
Founder of Fitness Quest 10, San Diego, CA
One of my favorite movies of all time is Miracle on Ice - the story of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team that defeated the powerful Soviets in a classic match-up that was much "bigger" than just a game. In his pre-game speech, coach Herb Brooks said, "Great moments are born from great opportunities." Was it destiny or was it design that these young, less experienced hockey players came together to beat a much stronger, better hockey team?
Thirty years have passed since that historic game, and it's February 7, 2010 - Super Bowl 44 in Miami, Florida - where I awoke with great excitement. As the personal trainer for quarterback Drew Brees for the past 7 years, I knew better than most how hard Drew had worked to make it to Miami. I knew the choices and the sacrifices. I knew the challenges and the setbacks. I knew the behind-the-scenes work required to make Drew the champion he was when he awoke on Super Bowl Sunday, win or lose.
Deep inside, I believed the Saints would win. But, even so, all morning long, I reflected on one question. Would the New Orleans Saints win the Super Bowl because they were destined or because they were designed to win?

TD & FQ 10 In the Media
TD In The Super Bowl Media
In preparation for the Super Bowl, Todd was interviewed by several media companies including Fox News Orleans, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, and Muscle and Fitness Magazine, amongst a dozen other media outlets. Todd spoke on behalf of Under Armour and Fitness Quest 10 to discuss what it is like to train NFL superstars and some of the details of Drew's program.
FOX NEW ORLEANS--
"Personal Trainer of Drew Brees"
Fox New Orleans came to the source when trying to figure out how hard Drew Brees works. They spoke to Drew's personal trainer Todd Durkin. Todd was asked about Drew's work ethic and the tools he uses to make Drew Brees the best. See the entire TV interview live from Miami below:
WALL STREET JOURNAL--
"Why Bigger Isn't Always Better"
"Even the big-frame guys need to make sure they aren't carrying a lot of extra body fat on them," says Todd Durkin, owner of Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, CA. To read the entire article, please click below:
The Indianapolis Colts defensive starters are not diminutive people. If everyone in America weighed 240 pounds, on average, we'd be dealing with a health crisis of epic proportions. But in the NFL, that number places them well below the league average.

New York Times--
"Brees' Colleagues See an Amazing Athlete Within"
As Drew Brees carried the New Orleans Saints to their first Super Bowl appearance, he was described as a humanitarian, a thinker, an overachiever and an underdog. Brees, the Saints' quarterback, has galvanized recovery efforts in New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina and raised money for local children through his charitable foundation.

MUSCLE AND FITNESS MAGAZINE--
"Training A Superstar"
In the shadow of many significant athletic achievements live the strength and conditioning coaches who work overtime to give their athletes the physical and mental durability necessary to aspire to greatness. Todd trains New Orleans quarterback Drew Brees, as well as more than 30 other NFL players.
Tight on the heels of Super Bowl 44, Todd gave Muscle and Fitness Magazine a window into how he prepares Brees for the rigors of the season, and how tools like the TRX Suspension Trainer help him compete at an elite level.

Drew Brees. LaDainian Tomlinson. Reggie Bush. Carson Palmer. Kellen Winslow, Jr. Besides being NFL Pro Bowlers, what do these five guys have in common?
Answer: They're all trained by Todd Durkin. He not only trains professional athletes, but also helps average guys achieve their ideal bodies. We sat down with Durkin to discuss his work with these top athletes, and to find out how you can apply the same techniques to your own body-sculpting efforts. SAN DIEGO UNION TRIBUNE--
"Dangerous Stretch"
It sounds crazy to say but stretching before exercise can actually be counterproductive. Todd was quoted as in this article saying, "Dynamic warm-up not only helps to get the body ready for action, but also works on improving coordination and helps counteract muscle imbalances. We want the entire body to be warmed up before exercising."

"Do Something: Make Your Life Count!"

Miles McPherson is the founder and pastor of The Rock Church in San Diego. On a weekly basis I find inspiration and motivation through him as I attend his services and listen to his insightful words. I found the same inspiration in the words and stories in his new book and wanted to share it with you!
"Do Something!" propels you to realize that you can make a difference by depicting inspiring stories of people who already have made a difference. It is filled with examples of individuals who learned they could use their own experiences - sometimes painful and heartbreaking - to help others in similar situations.
A specific call to action at the end of each chapter takes you down a path of "baby steps," through prayers, written exercises, and times of self-reflection that will lead you to involvement. It then sets you on a practical path to start making a difference by suggesting websites or organizations you can check out to get involved. This book is a must read to help you "Make Your Life Count."
A companion website,
www.DoSomethingWorld.org, provides suggestions for community service and a sample list of ministries started at The Rock by members profiled in "Do Something."

"The When's and Why's
Of Youth Weight Training"
By Brett Klika, CSCS, Fitness Quest 10, Director of Athletics
I'm often faced with the question "When should my son or daughter start lifting weights?" Parents are often surprised at my response. "Weight training" in youth has been made into a complex enigma based on old urban myths, overzealous, uneducated parents and coaches, and fruitless convention. When one stops to evaluate what weight training is and the role it should play in athletic development, the answer to the questions becomes very simple and logical. My response to the questions is "When they need to."

Tip Of The Day From Optimal Nutrition
"Ways to Love Yourself This Valentine's Day"
1. Get enough sleep? A lack of z's can interfere with your ability to handle stress, be mentally sharp, and function properly.
2. Exercise at least 30 minutes most days of the week. Working out releases feel-good endorphins, tones muscles for a sleeker physique, and helps prevent osteoporosis and heart disease.
3. Start the day off right. Though for some of us breakfast is the first meal to go, skipping breakfast makes your blood sugar unstable leading to irritability and lower productivity. To maximize your mental and physical functioning, incorporate a healthy AM meal before work!
4. Eat organic whenever you can. Organic foods minimize your exposure to metals and potentially toxic pesticides. They also contain more nutrients than non-organic food. Recent studies showed that organic foods have, on average, 27% more vitamin C, 29% more iron, and 14% more phosphorus!
5. Check in with your doc! An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. So even if you feel healthy as can be, schedule annual doctor's appointments to make sure!
