Harry Potter & My Son Brady

I need to share an amazing feat with you. Like really amazing.

And it deals with my 8-year old son Brady.

In September 2013, Melanie gave Brady his first Harry Potter book. It’s called Harry Potter & The Sorcerer’s Stone. He fell in love with the book and devoured it in less than 4 weeks. The book is 309 pages long. Fairly impressive.

And before you know it, the kid started devouring every Harry Potter book. Non-stop.

And this past Friday afternoon (March 14th), Brady finished his last Harry Potter book. And there are 7 books overall. Here they are:

2nd book: Harry Potter & the Chamber of Secrets (341 pages)—2 weeks
3rd book: Harry Potter & the Prisoner of Azkaban (421 pages)—1 week
4th book: Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire (724 pages)—6 weeks
5th book: Harry Potter & the Order of the Phoenix (870 pages)—8 weeks
6th book: Harry Potter & Half-Blood Prince (652 pages)—4 weeks
7th book: Harry Potter & the Deathly Hollows (759 pages)—5 weeks

What’s even more amazing is Brady just recited these titles to me, the number of pages in each of them, and how long it took him to complete each book without even looking at them.

Brady has been a VORACIOUS reader the past 6 months. That is 4,076 pages. And that’s on top of school & sports (not a lot of TV for the little guy). And he can tell you the name of every chapter in every book from the 7 books. I’m not sure where he gets that from because even though I read a ton, I can’t tell you the name of the last chapter I read last night.

VORACIOUS. It is defined as “exceedingly eager or avid; Having an insatiable appetite for an activity or pursuit.” A voracious reader; A voracious collector; etc.

What are you VORACIOUS about? What do you love to do so much that you just can’t put down or get enough of?

Brady has been an avid reader for the past 6 months. He’s been voracious. He’s been focused on doing something he’s really enjoyed.

How about you? What can you wrap your arms around so much that you just can’t get enough of? Identify what you love to do and make sure you do more of it? Maybe it’s just for this week. Maybe it’s for a month. Maybe it’s for 6 months. Or maybe it’s a lot longer.

But be VORACIOUS and be fully-immersed in an activity that you LOVE to do, and that’s good for your mind, body, and/or spirit.

WOW (Word Of the Week) = VORACIOUS. Eat it up this week. Let’s be all-in!

Much love,

Todd
