MESSAGE FROM TODD
Greetings from Las Vegas! That's right, I am over in cool, crisp 110 degree weather in Las Vegas presenting at the IDEA World Conference. The conference is going well as there are over 5,000 passionate, dedicated fitness professionals assembled. I am presenting 6 workshops at this conference so I am staying busy.

I had a truly inspirational last week. I got to meet someone that truly motivated me. His name is Dustin Carter and he is a state qualifier wrestler that went 44-4 this past year as a senior at Hillsboro High School, in Cincinnati, Ohio. What truly is impressive about this feat is that Dustin has no arms and no legs (he had them amputated at age 5 from a rare infection) and yet he dominated the competition.

Dustin and his trainer, Scott Goodpaster, came in to Fitness Quest 10 on Wednesday, July 2 and gave a motivational presentation to over 100 Fitness Quest 10 clients, family, kids, friends, and staff. He spoke of "What It Takes to Be a Champion" and talked about his relentless pursuit of excellence. What struck me most were his passion, desire, and dedication to be great, and his goal of becoming a national wrestling champion when he attends college at Mt. St. Joesph's in Cincinnati. He then gave a 20 minute demonstration of his training routine with Scott and it was amazing to see what he could do. To watch 250 lb, 7 year NFL veteran & Miami Dolphins Tight End Justin Peelle do push-ups off Dustin's body was pretty darned impressive. Justin said that "Dustin was the most solid person he has ever felt."

One of Dustin's highlights was when one of his favorite NFL players, and his fantasy league QB, showed up to meet him. Drew Brees, quarterback of the New Orleans Saints, came in and they had a chance to spend some time together. Dustin was really excited to meet one of his heroes and he stuck around to watch Drew in his training session. Dustin even gave Drew some "words of encouragement" and shouted inspirations while Drew did 60 seconds of "Bosu Bicycle & Rotates". We had a great time!

Dustin's winning, positive attitude is sure to land him continued success in life. He says that no matter how bad life is or may seem, "it could always be worse". Thank you, Dustin, for inspiring so many people. You are a true hero!
Be sure to tune in to this Month's Free Teleseminar as I have none other than special guest Drew Brees on the call. As Drew is on his quest to earn a Super Bowl title with the New Orleans Saints, he will share his "9 Top Keys to Success in the Game of Life". It will be a fun, information packed call that will prove to be one of the most inspirational yet. See the newsletter for details on how to sign up.
Enjoy this month's edition of the TD Times.

Peace & Health!

Kathy & Carter Pease
Fitness Quest 10 Clients Kathy and Carter are prime examples of living healthy lives to the fullest! This couple takes no breaks in life; they break sweats at FQ10, run a full time farm, and travel the world! Not only do they strive for a healthy and active life but, more importantly, they have fun doing it!

When Kathy and Carter were retiring from Qualcomm (Kathy) and BF Goodrich (Carter) they were given a gift certificate to FQ10 from their boss. They made the effort to come and meet with Todd Durkin in 2000, the year the gym opened. Little did they know that this would lead to 8 years of fitness training.

Now Kathy and Carter train at FQ10 twice a week with Anna Renderer, MS Exercise Physiology, ACE Personal Trainer. Their sessions are intense and they do everything from a dynamic warm up including skips, jumping jacks, squats, shuffles, whole body strength training including dumbell chest press, walking lunges, push ups, bench dips, and much more. Anna says, "We have so much fun, it's not just a time to sweat and get stronger, Kathy and Carter have great personalities and bring a wonderful energy to the gym. Kathy loves to work her muscles because it makes her feel good! And Carter always feels less stiff and more energized at the end of a workout."

Kathy and Carter did not stop with retirement; they continue to work on their 5 Acre farm in Escondido. They harvest 200 Avocado trees, 50 Citrus fruit trees, and 7 Macadamia trees. This last month in June, Kathy and Carter single handedly harvested 2400 lbs of avocados! Talk about hard work! And it only took them one weekend! Then they came in to FQ10 for their workout on Monday. Incredible!

This couple knows that exercise and a healthy active lifestyle is necessary to do the things in life they have always dreamed of doing such as traveling and experiencing adventures around the world. They have recently returned from a Canal Barge trip in England and a week long road trip in Whales with several good friends. In April of 2007 they traveled to Havasupai Falls in the Grand Canyon, AZ. This was an easy 4 hour hike for them. In April 2006, the couple took a few weeks to hike about 45 miles through the Grand Canyon! Kathy laughs, "We don't even like to drive 45 miles." Their next adventure is to Australia and New Zealand! With all their travels and love for adventure this couple knows they must stay healthy and strong to live and do what they want.

When asked what they like about FQ10 the most, Carter says "there are no ego's here, no one is judging you and there is something for everyone; it makes me feel good to be here". Kathy agrees and adds "there is a high standard; our best interest is always put first. We are challenged every time to get better!"

ATHLETE CORNER: "THE BEST EXERISES FOR YOUTH ATHLETES"
By Brett Klika
When myself, or any of our other athletic development coaches at Fitness Quest 10 design programs for youth, we want to provide the most effective and beneficial exercises possible. Parents and athletes do not have the time or money in their schedule to come to our facility every day of the week. This creates a demand for absolute efficiency. Most of the time we have a young athlete two, maybe three days a week to completely map or re-map their neuromuscular system. Furthermore, the needs of most athletes are vast. In 2-3 hours per week, we need to develop skills for speed, strength, mobility (flexibility), power, agility, and a host of other athletic skills. Nearly all of our athletes come to us a product of either no movement coaching or poor movement coaching, so we start from scratch.

GUEST ARTICLE: "THE PILATES EDGE"
By Andrea Krakower

Haley Steele Soccer"This makes flipping tires look easy!" Within the first ten minutes of his session, one of our Fitness Quest 10 athletes made this statement with a mixture of surprise and frustration. What could possibly challenge this athlete more than flipping tires, the ultimate test of strength and power? It wasn't repeats on 'the hill' outside, nor was it sled drags through the parking lot. This workout took place in a room where the challenge is not how much weight you can lift, how fast your can run or how high you can jump, but how well you can stabilize your body and focus your mind. The purpose of this workout was to address the weaknesses and muscle imbalances in the body that can ultimately result in injury, decreased performance and in some cases, the end of an athlete's season, or career. This workout was Pilates.
